A Different Sort of Droppin’ It Like It’s Hot (& Pre-drop 7)

Well, Drop fans, I know I’m two days late on this week’s Drop It Like It’s Hot. And I don’t even have a good reason, other than I’m too tired to speak intelligently on matters as important as the media in my life.

BUT!

I thought you’d like to know that at least someone in my family will be dropping something soon. My sister’s baby, Claire, is due TODAY!

Here’s how the girls were faring yesterday:

All signs point to an excited phone call and a quick trip to Abilene in the very near future. (You’ll know where I am if I disappear for a few days.)

In the meantime, here’s a list of the future items to appear on Drop It Like It’s Hot (the real) 7, which will cover some media from last week and some from this week:

On the nightstand
:
A Desk In the Elephant House by Cathryn Essinger

In progress: The Prestige by Christopher Priest (Thank you, Chelsea!)

On the TV
: (I’m actually considering doing a separate Drop It for this season’s finales.)

24’s 2-hour season finale, which airs tomorrow (At the end of a lack-luster season, it looks like Jack might still be able to deliver a decently entertaining finale. Tune in with me on Monday night to find out!)

Gilmore Girls’ series finale, “Bon Voyage,” which brought a beautiful happily-ever-after to television’s two most deserving, fast-talking gals on Tuesday, May 15, and has already been discussed here (and even more expertly so here) and of which I will eventually be providing a list of highlights.

Lost’s 2-hour season finale, which airs Wednesday night (Aqua Others! Not-dead Charlie! Ego-crazed Jack! Rescue Boat! Helicopter Claire! Ben Bates! Eternal Eyeliner Guy! Dynamite Stakeout! Oh, my, oh, my! Do these people really think our minds can take another THREE years of twists and turns? Whew!)

The Office’s 1-hour season finale, “The Job,” which filled our hearts with all the ooey-gooey Pam and Jim love we could handle in one last-minute clip on Thursday, May 17, and which has already been covered . . . with more frenzied-excitement than Dwight at a Battlestar Galatica convention with a fist full of Stanley Nickles, a pocket full of Schrute Bucks, and an over-qualified Jack Bauer sidekick . . . by the West Coast’s resident Office expert and future Mrs. Krasinski and by the internationally-loved and locally-adored, John Bierly.

On the Apple TV
:
I’ll give you a hint. I’m having a very special kind of tea party. Can you guess what kind?

In the DVD player:
You already know what I’m going to say. You can add the first 20 minutes of Cinderella too.

On the movie screen
:
Jason Bateman in The Ex

In the car CD player
:
Keep It Like a Secret by Built to Spill

On the passenger seat
:
Songs for a Blue Guitar by The Red House Painters

On the iPod
:
A handful of Garrison Starr, Glen Phillips, Jonatha Brooke, and Rachael Yamagata tracks from my favorite rockin’, music-lovin’, joy-bringin’ buddy, John (You can read all of John’s very own fabulous music reviews, news, and discussion right here.)

Brother, Bring the Sun by Dave Barnes

Slugs, Bugs, and Lullabies by Andrew Peterson & Randall Goodgame

Transatlanticism by Death Cab For Cutie

And that’s it. Happy Sunday!

* Check back soon for the official Drop It Like It’s Hot 7! . . . And for pictures of Baby Claire!
