Remember back in May when I took a time out to brag on my husband? Well, it’s time for another one.
The Stonebriar site has generated a lot of interest for Chris, enough that in addition to more freelance contracts, he’s been getting a few full-time job offers and a chance to do a couple “extracurricular activities.” One of those activities came in the form of an invitation to write an article about his design process for Digital Web Magazine. I get asked all the time to explain what Chris does and how he does it, and my answers never really match up to the truth. But he’s answered those questions (in regard to the Stonebriar site at least) in the article, which you can read for yourself right here. When I told my old work buddies that Chris would be doing this article, one of them said, “So he’s a designer and a writer?” Another one answered, “No, but Katy’s a writer,” implying that I would write the article for him. Nothing could be further from the truth! I gave it a quick read and offered one or two sentence tweaks, but I’m serious when I say that everything you see belongs completely to Chris. (If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’ve somehow managed to land a brilliant husband.)
In preparation for the article, he also redesigned the website for his business, Pixelight Creative. He says that he and his coder are still working out a few of the bugs, but I say it looks awesome anyway. For those of you who are interested in his thoughts on design and life in general (I’m thinking of his mom here especially), he’s started a notebook (blog) on the site, though he says that Brewing Thoughts won’t be going anywhere any time soon, despite the lull it’s experienced since he started working back in October 2005.
I really am quite proud of Chris, not just for the article and for the site, but for the hard work he does to support our family and for the leap of faith he took to make our dreams come true. A year and a half ago, Chris wasn’t even doing web design. He’s always been a technology geek, but web design wasn’t what his degree was in, and it wasn’t what he’d planned on doing. When Caelyn came along, I quit my job, Chris dove into the business he had casually started the month before we learned I was pregnant, and a year later, here we are. Chris’ dedication and discipline (and an amazing amount of blessing) have made it possible for me to be at home with Caelyn and for him to be at home with us doing something that he truly loves. I’m glad for him to get this kind of affirmation of his talents.
Did I mention that I love him, too?
P.S. Oh, yeah, and . . . “We stick together.”

Although it would probably be more appropriate to put a picture of Chris here, I think he’d rather pay homage to his other woman, who goes by “iMac,” and the place where the magic happens.

Katy, shoot me an e-mail at bezner@mac.com. I just showed your husband’s site to my pastor…and, well, you know.

As perilously out of touch as I’ve been, there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about how Caelyn’s going to be president someday based on the talent and goodness she’s inherited from her parents. You guys should be so proud, of yourselves and each other!

Thanks, Cristin! You know we’re proud of you guys too!
John, I’m so perilously out of touch that I can’t even expend enough energy to come up with my own ridiculously clever description of my sad blogging state, so would you mind if I just borrowed “perilously out of touch” and value-sized it? I mean, I couldn’t beat “perilously” even if I tried, but I’m in much worse shape than you are now or even were back then. Anyway . . . THANK YOU! In true John Bierly fashion, that’s massively sweet. Oh, and do you think the President’s mother gets to ride in Air Force One?
P.S. I hope you know I’ve been thinking about you and your Indiana crew and reading your ever-satisfying blog on a daily basis, too, despite my absence from formal blogging. :)
